'Suits' stars reunite at Golden Globes without Meghan: 'We don't have her number'
View Date:2025-01-11 07:38:50
Duchess Meghan isn't taking part in the "Suits" group chats these days.
Sunday's Golden Globe Awards doubled as a "Suits" reunion after cast members Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres handed out an award together. But the former Meghan Markle, who left the USA Network legal drama in 2018, wasn’t present.
On the red carpet, Torres told Variety the "Suits" cast didn't touch base with the Duchess of Sussex about their Globes reunion because "we don't have her number." But "she'll watch" and "be happy that we're here," Torres said of their former co-star. The rest of the cast, though, was "all texting each other" before their big on-stage reunion, and their "text thread is insane right now," the actress shared.
The "Suits" stars reunited to present the Golden Globe for best drama series to "Succession" near the end of the evening. Before giving out the award, they alluded to the second life their series experienced in 2023 after coming to Netflix and attracting a massive streaming audience.
"There is nothing more dramatic or anxiety-inducing than waiting all night to hear that your category is finally arrived," Macht said on stage. "That's true,” Adams noted. "It's hard to imagine having to wait so long to see your show get that kind of recognition."
After arriving on Netflix, "Suits" broke a record for most watched minutes on an “acquired” TV show (not one debuted by a streamer), with 3.1 billion minutes viewed in a single week in July, according to Nielsen. The show originally aired from 2011 to 2019.
'Suits' on Netflix:Why is everyone watching this legal drama from 2011?
During Variety's Golden Globes pre-show, Adams revealed he would be "ready to suit up again" for a "Suits" reboot or spinoff. And now that she has left the British royal family, could Meghan ever reprise her role of Rachel Zane? Adams told E! News the Duchess of Sussex is a "fantastic actor," so if she ever decided to return to her old profession, "we'd be lucky to have her back in the industry."
Though Meghan did not join her "Suits" co-stars for the reunion, she came up during the ceremony when host Jo Koy joked that she and Prince Harry "will still get paid millions of dollars for doing absolutely nothing, and that's just by Netflix."
